Weeping Blue Ginger is not actually a ginger despite
its name. It belongs to the Dayflower family. It is a perennial herb
growing about 2 ft tall. Leaves are dark green, narrowly elliptic,
upper surface glossy. Striking blue flowers, 1.5 to 2 cm across, are
borne in drooping inflorescence. Flowers have three petals, like most
flowers of the Dayflower family. The flower bracts continue to bloom
for many months with flowers arriving daily. On sunny days, the flowers
will close in the afternoon but remain open all day if itÂ’s cloudy.
Weeping Blue Ginger is native to Brazil, cultivated elsewhere.
